  1. How do I pass my theory test in Ireland?

Passing the theory test in Ireland requires preparation, dedication, and focus. Studying the Rules of the Road, using online resources, taking practice tests, arriving early, and staying relaxed and focused can give you the best chance of success.

4. What is the best time for a driving test?

Mid-morning driving tests

Between 9 am and 11 am is generally a decent time to take a driving test because it’s outside of rush hour and avoids the traffic increase in the run-up to lunchtime.

5. How many Test Centres are there?

There are over 40 Driver Theory Test locations throughout the Republic of Ireland. You can choose a Test Centre that is most convenient to you. Please note that available appointment times may vary between Test Centres.

6. How do I prepare for my Irish driving theory test?

The fastest way to learn the Irish driving theory questions is to do mock tests. Continually test yourself and ensure you pass the mock driving theory test each time.

7. How many questions are on the driving theory test in Ireland?

The driver theory test for a category A or B licence consists of 40 multi-choice questions. The theory test questions aim to assess your knowledge of the rules of the road, risk perception, hazard awareness, eco-driving, and driving behaviour. You will need to answer 35 questions correctly to be successful.

8. Is the Test provided in the Irish Language?

Theory Tests are provided in the Irish language for Vehicle Categories A, B, C & D. The new combined C & D Theory Test, Bus Module Test and Truck Module Test will only be provided in English until further notice. A, B, C & D Test category names are displayed in English and Irish during the scheduling process.

9. What documents do I need to drive in Ireland?

Visitors must be aged 17 or older and hold a valid driving licence to drive in Ireland legally. Riders of mopeds or motorcycles up to 125cc must be aged 16 or over.

10. How to pass multiple-choice questions in theory test?

The multiple-choice part of the exam is straightforward: get 43 of the 50 questions correct to pass. Some of the questions are case study questions about a real-life situation you could encounter when driving.

11. Is the theory test multiple-choice in Ireland?

Each theory test is computer-based, user-friendly, and works as follows: the individual category C and D tests are 100 multiple-choice questions, and you must correctly answer at least 74 to pass.

12. How long is the Irish theory test?

There are 40 questions in the category A and B tests, and you must answer 35 questions correctly to succeed. You have 45 minutes to answer the 40 questions in the test. You can find out more from the theory test.

13. What age can you do a driving test in Ireland?

This person must be at least 16 years old and not an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).

14. What languages is the Theory Test available in?

The test is available in English and Irish, but you can request a voiceover in other languages.

15. What should I do if I lose my Theory Test certificate?

Contact the RSA for assistance in obtaining a replacement certificate.

 16. Is there a fee for requesting a voiceover in another language during the Theory Test?

Yes, requesting a voiceover in a language other than English or Irish may be an additional fee.

17. How soon can I take the Theory Test after getting my learner permit?

You can take the Theory Test as soon as you’re ready, but studying and practising first is advisable.
